Finishing Embroideries

Over the weekend I finished off the edges of 4 embroideries. Lots of people frame their stitching. I've always preferred to keep the tactile assets of my textile by adding a backing and a binding .

I usually use small straight pins to pin up my work wherever I like. This works with drywall/plaster board wall surfaces but not a real plaster wall.

Choosing the binding fabric is one of the fun ways of playing with your fabric stash.

Blue and white stripes were perfect for this piece.

Claire's Caravan

Part caravan and part carousal, this background embroidery was done back in '01 but is just the right size for Claire today.
Claire is a 5 1/2" hand stitched doll. She has turned up toe shoes done in needlelace and a sweet embroidered jacket.

Caravan details

The background for the embroidery is cotton appliqued shapes.

Then lots of stitches to embellish the wagon.

Completed Teaching Sample

The teaching sample is finished. I love the twisted columns with all the different sample stitches inside.

My New House

I spent the weekend in northern Indiana. Bought a new house!

OK, it's just a music box. But it is the perfect home for Once and for Claire.

Once is checking out the inside.

Once and Claire .
